This ultra-rich and creamy chocolate hummus is made with black beans, unsweetened cocoa powder, nut butter, and just a little maple syrup. It is a delicious, lower-sugar alternative to traditional chocolate spreads and is perfect on toast, crispbread, fruit, pancakes, or straight from the spoon.

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz.) can of black beans, rinsed*
  • 1/2 cup plant-based milk
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (or other nut butter)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup, or to taste
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend on low to medium for 1-3 minutes, or until velvety smooth
  2. Enjoy straight away or keep in the fridge until ready to use

Notes

*or use chickpeas

You need enough milk to get the blender going. These ratios worked well for me, but just in case your peanut butter is very thick, you might have to add a splash or so more milk. Don’t worry if it seems a little runny–it will thicken in the fridge!
