The Best Vegan Chocolate Cherry Smoothie

This is literally the best vegan chocolate cherry smoothie. I just call it the choc cherry and can’t get enough of it, even after years of making it. I have it at least every other morning to start my day right. While I found many smoothies not great for a lasting breakfast, this one is different. Thanks to healthy fats and lots of fiber, it keeps me full just as long as a big bowl of oatmeal (curiously, sometimes longer!). And honestly? It’s the chocolate cherry combo I’ve been dreaming of for years.
I mean, let’s be real: chocolate and cherry should be amazing together. But somehow, every smoothie I tried in the past was disappointing. Either too banana-heavy or too watery. Not chocolatey enough, or the cherry flavor would just kind of disappear.
So I experimented. A lot. And found this version and haven’t changed a thing since.
The secret? Lots of cherries. More cocoa powder. And less banana.
How this vegan chocolate cherry smoothie keeps you full for hours
Instead of relying on banana for sweetness and thickness, this smoothie keeps it minimal – just a small amount for creaminess. I add some cauliflower which will also ensure a creamy consistency while also secretly loading up the nutrition content (but you won’t taste it, promise! So don’t fear the cauliflower).
The real stars are frozen cherries and rich cocoa powder. The result is deep, intense chocolate flavor balanced by bright, slightly tart cherries. It finally tastes like actual chocolate cherry instead of yet another banana-based smoothie with a note of berry.
I don’t only love this smoothie for its flavor. It’s also incredibly satisfying. Thanks to chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, almond butter, and soy or pea milk, it’s packed with plant-based protein, fiber, and healthy fats. That combination stabilizes blood sugar and keeps you full for hours.
A rich, indulgent chocolate cherry delight
The optional additions make it even more powerful:
- Kale for a hidden boost of greens (you won’t taste or see that, either!)
- a small amount of vegan protein powder, or, better yet: a tablespoon or two of chickpeas (I’m repeating myself here, but just to be sure: it won’t taste like chickpeas, so fear not)
This vegan chocolate cherry smoothie is thick. It’s rich. It feels indulgent.
And yet it’s made entirely from whole plant foods.
If you’ve been searching for a vegan chocolate cherry smoothie that actually delivers on flavor and keeps you full all morning – this is it. I urge you to try it! If you do, let me know what you think in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
