Creamy Vegan Snickers Smoothie

If you know me, you know there’s one thing I love more than anything: chocolate. I’m also a huge fan of peanut butter (any nut butter, really). So this smoothie makes sense for me: It’s chocolatey and rich, indulgent yet still nourishing.

This creamy vegan Snickers smoothie brings together everything I love about that candy bar. Deep chocolate notes, creamy peanut butter, and a natural sweetness from dates. Dates tasty pretty much like caramel while still being so good for you, so I love using them instead of regular sugar or maple syrup when I can.

Blended with frozen banana and plant-based milk, the ingredients turn into a smooth drink. It feels almost like a dessert, but works perfectly as a substantial snack or quick breakfast.

I like smoothies that not only taste great, but also keep you feeling full for as long as possible. Peanut butter adds healthy fats while flaxseeds and chia seeds deliver on fiber and amp the nutritional profile of this smoothie. A spoonful of rolled oats adds a little more substance without making it feel heavy. The frozen banana creates that silky texture and pairs perfectly with the rest of the ingredients.

Which plant-based milk works best?

If you want to boost the nutritional value of this creamy vegan snickers smoothie even further, you can add one or two small frozen cauliflower florets. It might sound unusual, but you truly won’t taste them! They blend right in and simply make the smoothie even creamier.

A note on nondairy milk: You can use any plant-based milk you like. I usually use soy or pea for their superior nutritional profiles, but oat or almond would taste nice, too. If your milk is unsweetened, you may want to add an extra date. Likewise, if you use a milk with a higher sugar content, like oat milk, you could maybe omit a date or two.

It doesn’t have to be peanut butter, either. Almond butter is just as delicious. Or why not try hazelnut for a change?

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plant-based milk
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 4 regular dates (or 2 Medjool)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 frozen banana (frozen in chunks)
  • 1 tbsp rolled oats
  • 1-2 chunks frozen cauliflower, optional 

Instructions

Blend all the ingredients in a high-speed blender on high for 30 to 60 seconds or until smooth
